The concierge at the hotel doesn't always guide you where you want to be.
So I asked Howard Lam, director of Chinese cuisine at The Langham hotel group for some real insider information.
He often goes to Shanghai and Hong Kong
He knows both cities very well. And his 20-
Plus years in the dining area, he became a good person talking about all the food and drinks.

Yang's fried dumplings "started with a very small domestic food stall and have become a successful chain restaurant since 1994," Lin said . ".

"Nanjing Impression" this restaurant provides you with local specialties, including French fries and noodles.
The decoration is superb and has the feeling of old Nanjing.
For travelers who want a little authentic taste, this price is affordable.
"It's hard to find a good Guangdong restaurant in Shanghai (
Except for tang Court, of course! )
Sun Yongji is a good Cantonese restaurant.
The food is of good quality and authentic taste.
The snacks here are good, and the grilled pigeon is one of their signature dishes.
"This is a very authentic Xinjiang restaurant serving halal food, mainly mutton," Lin pointed out.
"Their most famous dish is Roasted Whole Sheep and mutton skewers seasoned with cumin.
I can finish half a dozen easily!
The restaurant is beautifully decorated with live entertainment for dancing every night.
The "Fu 1039" restaurant was converted into a restaurant from an old residential building in Shanghai.
The theme is the 1930 s: Shanghai, a very classic film.
The food is authentic and there are a lot of local food.
The atmosphere is relaxed and the service is timely.
"This place is the former British embassy and the decoration is a classic combination of old Shanghai and European style," Lin said . ".
"The owner decorated the restaurant with a lot of antiques in his own collection.
The outdoor garden is the perfect place to relax afternoon tea.
They recently won two Michelin stars in 2016.
They serve mid-range local cuisineto high-price range.
