UK scoffs at British food and shows appetite for global grub as half of all meals eaten in average lifetime are foreign - most popular restaurant breakfast dishes survey

British people eat an average of 1,701 Chinese, 1,890 Indian and 378 Caribbean meals in their lives, a study found.
A survey of 2,000 people found that adults between the ages of 18 and 81 eat an average of 14,175 international dishes, almost twice as many as 7,812 traditional British dishes.
British favorite food is Italian, the most popular option, and people eat food from Mediterranean countries once a week-3,276 of adults have a lifetime.
The British will also consume 819 Mexican, 756 Spanish and 252 African dishes.
The study by the Giraffe World Kitchen also found that more than one out of every 10 people ate only one traditional British meal a week, of which 2.

Eight out of ten people think they eat more international food than ever before.
Alex Meyer of Giraffe World Kitchen said: "As a country, we travel around the world more than ever and experience more exotic and international cuisine, this is reflected on our table and also on the meals we choose when we eat outside
"In the UK, Italian, Chinese and American dishes are even consumed so much that many people think they are British dishes and people are increasingly fond of exotic foods such as Peru, the Middle East and Africa.
The study found that Britons will spend an average of 2,079 meals a lifetime, including 630 French and 567 Thai.
For the rest of our lives, Greek recipes account for 567 of our food, while ordinary adults also taste 378 Middle Eastern and 189 Peruvian dishes.
We will also have 378 meals for dinner from Japan and 315 Turkey.
But, as we are now consuming more and more international dishes, six out of ten people think that British dishes are in danger of being erased from the national table by more exotic food.

How much people love international food depends on how easy it is to buy in supermarkets and shops, while 40 think people are more willing to try new flavors and ingredients.

Seven out of ten even said they were more likely to go to a restaurant serving world cuisine when they were out for dinner, although 60 would choose a British meal on the menu instead of an international one.
