I wrote about cooking for many famous publications and published a New York Times bestseller last year, so I always thought about going out for dinner.
With the end of 2017, it's time to give an annual reflection on my excellent restaurant meals for the past 12 months.
This is my tradition of starting with "The 10 most memorable restaurant meals in 2011" and continues every year thereafter.
There are still a lot of gems in the previous article, and if not all, most of the restaurants covered are still very relevant to travelers.
This is part of my annual travel review, which also includes the best and worst hotels for 2017 airlines and 10 best hotels in 2017.
One reason my list is particularly useful for travelers is that unlike most publications, I don't confuse "new" with "good.
If I had eaten somewhere this year, it was because the place was great.
If it opens this year but I like it and think it has a staying power then it becomes the list.
Also, my choices tend to be in actual tourist destinations, and some of you go on business trips or vacations anyway, so unlike most food magazines, not all of my choices are in Brooklyn and
My favorite is not expensive, not Michelin.
All they need to do is provide delicious food.
Hype or trends won't make restaurants better or worse
The most important thing for me is the taste.
As the great American food restaurant columnist for USAToday, the largest newspaper in the United States, I am looking for the best areas and outstanding road food in every corner of the United States. S.
My other food media brought me all over the world and as a result I spent a lot of time in restaurants at every price point.
Rough calculations show that I eat at least 250 meals outside a year.
Unfortunately, many of these foods are forgotten, or just "good ".
Here are the coveted exceptions, my top ten best memories of 2017.
Tokyo Kobe beef: no one in this country has written about Kobe beef like me, and it's all one of mine --
The most frequently read story of Forbes1.
7 million and climb)
It's the biggest scam about luxury food. countless restaurants in the country charge the highest price for Japan's most famous beef, but the price is much cheaper.
This is also a theme I explore in the book "Real Food, fake food" and many other fake things: why don't you know what you're eating and don't know you
But the real Kobe beef is delicious and worth a try, and there is no better place than Kobe beef. Managed by the cattle producer distribution board, dedicated to the display of famous red meat.
But the original movie I 've been to is in Kobe, a place where few Americans go.
Last year, in the busiest corner of Ginza, the second location was open and the transportation was more convenient, equivalent to the Fifth Avenue of Tokyo's main shopping center.
The restaurant is very good. There are three ways to serve Kobe beef, which is cooked on the iron plate Grill (
The most traditional steaklike”)
Simmer, simmer, simmer in meat soup ,(fondue style)
Steam vegetables in a steamer.
There are a few more
The course menu, starring extraordinary Kobe, is surprisingly reasonable for this meat and high-rent location, and the lunch price is surprisingly reasonable at $60.
Kobe Plaisir is a modern steak restaurant with a long wine list and first-class service. it is a must-have when visiting Tokyo.
Estiatorio Milos, New York City: The country's top Greek gourmet restaurant, the original Milos in Montreal, which has been attracting New Yorkers for 20 years with its amazing seafood, but just completed a full facelift and a major renovation.
I also had a meal at the Las Vegas hotel (
In the international metropolis)
Similarly, Milos is located in Miami and Athens.
The key is an incredible and impeccable seafood sourcing project, with all fish and shell fish flown by air from all over the world, especially the Mediterranean Sea, with unparalleled options in the restaurant world.
Centered on the fish market, Milos is a counter that shows a huge amount of ice filled with a drop of water on it
Amazing fresh and dead options for live fish in some cases.
The waiter takes the customer to the display desk and leads them through the choice of describing the taste and preparation, one of the best seafood products in the world. Non-
Seafood delicacies, such as paper thin fried eggplant and zucchini fries with the signature tower of tzatziki sauce, are also amazing, although Estiatorio Milos is expensive for fish you can't buy elsewhere, every penny is worth it, with first class service, a great experience, as many Greek options are shown on the wine list, so the price of the wine is actually lower than the same price --end eateries.
If I live in New York and can afford it, I will eat here once a week.
Capo's Pizza, San Francisco: I 've written about the best pizzeria in the country before, Tony's pizzza Napoletana in San Francisco, it mainly deals in the world's most regional pizza from Naples, Rome to St. pizza.
Louis, Detroit, New York and New Haven
There are, among other things, seven different ovens due to the use of various fuels in Tony's oven (
Coal, wood, gas, electricity), at pizza-
Style a specific temperature from 550 to 1000 degrees.
But the owner, Tony kingnani
The first American to win the World Championship at the World Pizza Cup in Naples, Italy
Deliberately remove a famous Chicago deep dish from the menu, because the rest can be cooked in less than 10 minutes, and the deep dish takes more than half an hour, will throw away the flow of people in the restaurant.
He opened a second restaurant on the street, Capo, focusing on deep Chicago plates, as well as classic Italian entrees, such as pasta, pork chops and chicken masala, filling the gap.
The pasta in the style of the wooden oven baking casserole is not on the list, including delicious seafood arrabiata and delicious mostaccioli Genovese with garlic, whey cheese, dried tomato.
But pizza is the reason to be here, and as a combination of pizza chefs, pizza historians, and pizza fanatics, Tony offers five different Chicago microsstyles.
But the best-selling book "Old Chicago" is the most famous
The style of the dish, filled with meatballs and houses
Sausage made of fresh herbs and spices.
I love the Chicago deep plate and ate it in Windy City, the best I 've ever had (sorry Illinois).
If that's not enough, Capo also has a deep whiskey and cocktail. Awesome!
Louis XV in Monte Carlo: Alain Dukas was born in France but fell into the spell of Monaco, which is now Monaco. Along with his Paris restaurant of the same name, it is his two major international flagship stores. stars.
Dukas ranks second in the world's total stars, more than double the third
It is necessary to put the chef on the list
Booked in Monaco, there is an exquisite chef tasting menu with different choices every day, and a la carte option, which is rarely appreciated in such a place of celebration these days, and it has a dress code.
The menu is often changed, but this is the most luxurious grand dining in the traditional French style. once a year, the service, display, preparation and taste are impeccable, one of the best barbecue restaurants in the world in Cleveland, Ohio: Mabel's is the latest restaurant mix of Cleveland's most famous local star chef Michaela Symon, known for his love of meat.
But here, Symon solves one of the trickiest niches for famous chefs and northern cities, one that fails more than the number of successes, is a slow smoked barbecue.
Not only did he succeed, he also kicked it out of the park.
I have been writing on BBQ and have been to all the great temples and have eaten all over the country, this is the real deal and has been promoted.
He's got some Midwest like a Polish girl sandwich nodding his head.
Spicy house in Barcelona)
But the menu covers all the major BBQ areas, including ribs, bris and pulled meat, as well as the less common specialties from Turkey to spareribs, Lamb spareribs, and pork tripe.
The spareribs are probably the most common protein in the world of grilling and are available in almost every region, but Symon crushed the spareribs with awesome spareribs.
The signature dish is a "pig part" sampler with tails, crackles, and ears, and these strange but delicious foods are endless, as are the amazing whiskey lists, spanning two pages, including everything from Japanese choice to private barrel age products.
The portions are large, the meat is delicious, the seasonal food is also delicious, and there is also an amazing drink item.
Niszko Ezo, Japan: Japan is arguably the best ski resort in the world and has suddenly gained the global recognition it deserves.
Nisco is the most popular ski resort in the United States, but it is also the most Westernized. There are many Mexican restaurants and pizza shops, and there are many more English-speaking people than Japanese.
There is a lot of deep dry powder every winter, which is a big attraction, but many tourists want it to be more Japanese.
This hidden gem is a place for those who want to experience local culture and world class skiing, although you need to book before leaving home --
We booked one month in advance but still couldn't get the time we liked.
This is because it's small, but what really makes it special is the settings.
All the tables are in front of the fish counter, as you will find at excellent seafood retailers, the whole fish, thick cod steak, squid and raw shellfish pile up on a pile of ice, there are tanks full of live crabs and abalone.
This display is also a "menu", and the person behind the counter explains these options, such as the whole red apper fish of a baked or flashed friend, with a chili sauce.
You go up, order, choose, order, and your food is ready.
There are delicious sashimi, delicious fresh oysters, everything that is cooked is great --
Sn fish is the best fish I have ever eaten.
New York City Scott: what happens when you put two pieces of meat together
High-end Western steak house and traditional Korean barbecue?
You'll get a very successful Scott, who has just been named one of the top 10 new restaurants in New York by legendary critic mi Sheraton.
Here is the butcher's feast, four different kinds of meat.
All US Department of Agriculture prime ministers or better-
The chef picks each day, cooks for you on the table top grill and offers a wide variety of appetizers, sides and Korean deserts for $45 per person.
Given that these meats come from the legendary butcher shop DeBragga & Spitler, including 45-
Ribeye dry during the day, very low price, very good food, this is a concept.
That's why the wait time is more than two hours, one of Apple's hottest hotspots.
My only complaint is that the pricing of a wide range of beverage items may negate the food value proposition, and we can't find a bottle of $ hundred on the huge wine list, hundreds of products.
Great food, service and experience.
Nick and Sam in Dallas: Dallas can be said to be the best steakhouse city in the country, and on my last visit I went to several prominent places, including the awesome Papas brothers, this will be the list if I have more space.
But the difference between setsNick & Sam is that in addition to the incredible "regular" high-end steakhouse menu, it has a lot of real Japanese beef that is still hard to find in this country, there are only a few restaurants offering real Kobe, and no more restaurants offering Wagga style in other areas.
Nick & sa'shas and the import of real Kobe from Miyazaki, Ohmi, Kumomoto are among the only three places in the country that supply the rarest Hokkaido snow beef.
There is also a full set of sushi bars and menus, as well as all Western steakhouses.
This is a big, lively place that attracts celebrities, and for me there is so much South Beach feel, not the traditional dark wood, soft steakhouse atmosphere, the quality of the menu and food is unmatched.
Illinois's, Chicago, Illinois: Gibson's combines the true classic steakhouse style with the crazy popularity of keeping the atmosphere active, earning every square foot restaurant in Chicago
On less busy nights, this is a great place to dine alone at the front bar with a piano player and dine at the main restaurant, the signature here is a table top display of various steak cuts and huge Australian lobster tails.
The food was great, the portions were too large, and the service was excellent, and the service provided by the team of white jacketed table captains was impeccable.
But what really sets Gibson apart is that it is the only restaurant in the country that has signed its own private label USDA grading program, and its beef is "Gibson's Gold ", "USDA inspectors are more selective in scoring than other Steakhouse USDA Prime's highest rating.
Everyone I know who often goes to Chicago on business is there for dinner and entertainment, and one of my friends goes to work more than a dozen times a year, and now I see why.
Moxy, Portsmouth, New Hampshire: This seaside New England town with a long history has quietly become one of the top food hotspots in the northeast and has become its own weekend dining destination.
There are a lot of good options, but the first option for any serious foodie visit is Moxy, whose chef/boss Matt Louis has been nominated for best chef James beard for the last two times
The theme here is small plates, most of the local affected snacks have a strong regional food purchasing aesthetics, there are a lot of Rhode Island squid, local oysters, New England Ranch meat, local handmade cheese.
My favorite dish is the amazing new England dinner.
This is a deconstruction of pickled beef and cabbage, but far from it --
Pot dishes often made of water-stained meat and cooked vegetables.
Instead, large, delicious chicken-meat beef bris is used to rollyour-
Wrap the entire Napa leaf with crispy fried potato straws, pickled vegetables and local Raye mustard.
This is fantastic, as is the mini whoopie pie slider, with a dark chocolate dip for dessert.
