I like the new restaurant that my friends say they want to try, little hole --in-
The wall spots they stumbled upon are now home to some of their favorite dishes.
A few weeks ago, I first tried the menu with a large group of friends and colleagues at the cafe and Bistro on the island.
This delightful Malaysian small restaurant is easily missed, it is located between a mattress shop and a liquor shop and is located in one of the many strip shopping centers on 17 th Street.
We found this restaurant through the recommendation of a photographer friend who was attracted by its commitment to Malaysia --
Breakfast style and dim sum.
We were persuaded by his praise and curiosity about the restaurant and decided to give it a try.
The menu is so compact that it is a great opportunity to taste almost everything.
That Saturday night, the narrow restaurant, as compact as its menu, packed with lively tables for friends and family, and other promising diners waiting to open.
The island cafe and bistro is a family run and will be displayed for good or bad.
The service may drop a bit when the restaurant is busy (our water was placed at one end of the table that night and left to ourselves to pour and distribute ).
But when we find ourselves unable to choose, the chef also meets our requirements for all her favorite samples.
Last week I went back for a second quieter visit and arrived at a calm cafe before dinner, an oasis that came back from a busy rush --
Hour traffic on 17 Street.
When I wait for my friend to see me, one of my hosts --
Husband in her husband-and-
There are many wives running this store.
I came to my desk very quickly and provided me with some menus.
He recommended a refreshing bubble tea ($5) and I took his offer and chose the pineapple mixture.
Bubble tea is unfortunately made with powder instead of real fruit, but it is a delicious way to start dining, all of which are the same.
While he told me that they are considering getting a liquor license in the future, alcohol is not an option right now.
My friend came soon and our host made some suggestions after choosing our own pearl tea before leaving us to study the menu.
Malaysian food is hard to buy in Edmonton, so if you 've never eaten it, think about Thai-like food --
A fragrant curry filled with spices is often accompanied by shrimp, tofu and eggs.
We started with roti cani and curry ($3. 95).
Two hot roti, though fluffy and airy, still maintain a slightly crispy texture.
I was supposed to wait before tearing it up, but the Curry caught me and I couldn't help it.
Nevertheless, it is worth taking the risk of a scorched tongue and fingertips, as the aromatic curry is soaked in light bread and is satisfactory.
Our next flavor is Hakka noodles ($12) with chopped pork and thin egg strips added to the light broth with a bunch of chopped scallions on top.
The tasty broth is light but unfortunately a bit greasy.
The scallions are bright but not bright enough to cut fat because my mouth feels almost covered with a thin layer of oil.
The egg noodles are cooked well, not too soft, and the pork is not overcooked.
Next is the Malaysian-style nasi lemak ($12), an interesting deconstructing dish with a variety of flavors.
A small pile of coconuts --
The most important thing is to inject glutinous rice with a small pile of cucumber and pineapple salad picked in Malaysia, as well as four crispy chicken wings, a raw peanut and a hard peanut.
Boiled eggs and a small bowl of homemade sambal sauce and some homemade shrimp cakes.
Sambal is a real star, a slow
A culinary miracle of peppers, ginger, garlic, onions, etc, a delicious punch that boosts all the other ingredients in the dish.

Start a new day.
Throughout the meal, the owners carefully visited our table, asked for feedback and made suggestions for the next meal.
The price was very reasonable and at the end of our quiet meal our appetite exceeded our satisfaction.
I reached an agreement with my friend to come back right before we walked out of the Oasis and went back to the noisy traffic in the west end of Edmonton.
