These coasters give me a lot of praise.
I have been giving them as a gift from the hostess.
Although the project looks complicated, it is very simple.
There are different types of resin.
It is best to use when you are a beginner.
But there is dangerous steam in polyester resin, so there must be a mask and a well ventilated workplace.
For this project, it is a low odor resin that does not require a mask and has to wear gloves when handling the resin.
I bought a box of medical gloves at the local pharmacy.
I took the container out of Indian and Chinese restaurants with round plastic.
Away from plastic containers of hard Tupperware type or really thin or colored, namely, butter containers.
The butter containers work, but they usually tear apart when trying to remove the resin, so they cannot be reused.
Put wax paper in your work space.
Because the resin is hard to fall off any surface, I tend to stick the paper down with tape.
Wax paper must be used and tin paper or newspaper is not recommended.
The best way to determine the amount of resin required for a mold is to fill the mold to the amount you want to use with water and measure it.
Must be measured accurately when using resin!
On my mold I use 2 oz resin every time I roller coaster.
The resin kit is divided into two parts.
Do not mix the parts together until you are ready to pour into the mold.
The two bottles of the kit are made of resin and hardened agent.
Mix and measure in the direction of the kit.
In measurement, the usual rule of thumb is 1 to 1.
Always wear gloves when using resin.
If you need 2 ounces of resin for your mold.
Then fill a measuring cup with an ounce of resin and another measuring cup with an ounce of hardening agent, because this is the ratio of 1 to 1.
* One of the rules of thumb is the resin bottle, which should always be at the same level after each project is over.
If they don't, then that means there is an incorrect measurement item, which means the item may not be hardened.
Add the resin and hardening agent to the disposable cup.
Mix together according to the instructions of the kit and use the correct mix at once (picture #2 ).
I suggest adding colors.
The clear resin is hard to fall off and it gets cloudy or frothy.
The acrylic paint has a good effect and adds bright colors.
As shown in figure 3, only a little color is needed.
Mix the resin until the color is even and reach the desired tone (picture #4 ).
If you want a more milky color or a cloudy one, then add white paint to your resin.
Pour the resin from the cup into the mold.
The foam/foam is normal after mixing, and after about 5 minutes after pouring to the mold, the foam/foam disappears after setting (see below ). The resin should be clearly visible.
If many different colors are used, different cups and mixing utensils must be used each time.
* I recommend throwing all the cups, measuring cups, gloves and mixing utensils into plastic bags and securely tying the bags to ensure that the resin is not on any other surface.
To increase interest and spark, I like to add flash on the roller coaster.
I like the heavy flash for this project.
Regular flashes will also be good.
Once the resin is in the mold, it is sprinkled on the plastic chip and mixed so that the flash can be seen from the bottom of the roller coaster.
If too much flash powder sinks into resinI and sprinkle some extra flash powder on it, don't stir.
Leave a resin filled mold on wax paper.
It takes about 24 to 36 hours to harden correctly.
Once the resin is completely hardened.
Pour the mold over and push it down.
The resin should be loose.
Once the bottom is loose, flip the mold and press the side off the resin.
The resin should pop out of the mold easily.
If the resin doesn't want to come out of the mold, try putting the item in the fridge for 15 minutes and then try to take it out again.
If it's still stuck, try cutting it out of the mold.
Trim any excess resin on the side.
