Four years ago, I had a great opportunity to go to China and work for a digital marketing company in Beijing.
It was a short five-month period, but I am increasingly interested in Chinese food, culture and the complexity of their language.
When I returned to the United States, I rushed around to find a Chinese class and finally found one in Lower West Side of Manhattan.
Two classes a week, two hours a week.
Three years later. . . . .
I sat in a dark room and cried for my review book and dictionary.
But don't worry.
These are tears of joy.
After three setbacks
Years of research have numbed people. . .
There is no rest or vacation other than the obvious Christmas, Thanksgiving and beer festival. . .
I think I have mastered all the Mandarin at last.
As proof of this achievement, I want to tell some of the trials and tribulations I have experienced in learning this language.
Finally, I hope this will help people avoid traps and time.
The wave I met on my own journey.
Like many things in life, if you decide what to do early and stick to it, you will go further and faster.
This also applies to learning Chinese.
As you may or may not know, the word "Chinese" is a general term for dialects, accents, and regional slurs used in mainland China.
While many people (like me) have decided to learn a more popular dialect (Mandarin );
Learning one of many other dialects is also a noble feat.
In fact, there are so many foreigners learning Mandarin now that learning other dialects may make you look like a great cultural scholar. Just saying.
So choose a Chinese "dialect" and stick to it.
I put the "dialect" in the quotation marks because the different Chinese "dialects" have an amazing difference between each other;
They can be considered different languages in many ways.
In fact, one thing that connects all Chinese "dialects" is their words.
There are even some differences in this regard.
Now the pain begins.
From the perspective of foreigners (especially Western foreigners), Chinese people will appear completely unfamiliar at first.
In the process of mmmm, it is in a language department that is completely different from all Western languages. . .
In the time around 2200, it has had time to develop a powerful vocabulary of terms, idioms and structures.
How do we learn?
I suggest you take classes if you can afford it.
A good class with excellent teachers is worth 20 Rosetta Stone CD.

So search for Chinese courses in your local community or town.
Check out any comments from any institution providing guidance and their teachers.
If the learning materials they use are sufficient or suitable for you, try to feel it.

I tried a copy of Rosetta before signing up for the actual course, and a friend asked me to um. . . \"borrow.
"Rosetta Stone (at least the version I used) tries to teach you a language intuitively;

However, learning Chinese in this way is a waste of time. Why?
Rosetta Stone is often very formulaic when using pictures (the same pictures are used in Spanish and Chinese ).

Mandarin/Mandarin itself has four tones, while Cantonese (depending on the dialect) can have up to 9 or 10 different tones.
It is often difficult for Westerners to surround their heads with tones because they look like a foreign concept, and in fact they are not.
Tone changes are used in almost every language.
For example, English speakers have a different tone when asking questions and statements (whether they are aware of this or not ).
Chinese users use tones more widely than most people do.
Of course, pronunciation may always be the most difficult thing for me to master.
In many cases I messed up the tone or used the incorrect tone completely.
Unfortunately, these tones are of great help to make other Chinese understand you.
So the best thing to do is practice the tone and actively listen to how native speakers speak words.
Basically, you have to understand how Chinese listen to the different tones used in their language.
I once heard a friend say the following to me. . .
\ "Try listening to Chinese songs first (preferably slow ones) to get a feel for the language.
This will really help. Not True.
The Chinese songs are filled with strange phrases and authentic phrases that will really confuse beginners and intermediate learners.
If you want to listen to any form of Chinese media, please try news reports or news programs first.
The meaning of these programs is clear and straight forward.
Ignore the tone at your own risk.
I mean, don't bother them to the point of paralysis.
Because to be honest, many locals
People who speak Chinese sometimes forget to use the correct tone.
But you should get the right tone as much as you can.
Learn about different grammatical structures such as the back of the hand (assuming you know the back of the hand ).
Understanding the grammatical structure is the key to learning any language.
However, this is particularly important in the process of moving from one language department to another.
The reason why I say this is because the advice given by many people is: "learn vocabulary first and then rest.
However, for example, the differences in grammatical structure between Chinese and English are sometimes shocking.
My suggestion is that it is equally important to learn vocabulary and grammar structure.
Measuring words is new for English speakers, which can be frustrating.
These words are used with digital word phrases and certain prepositions.
The structure is generally such a number (metric word) term.

The bad thing is that in Chinese there are more than 100 measuring words used together with a variety of different nouns.
There's a warning now.
There is a metric word called ge (äedu) that is most commonly used in Chinese and in most cases can be used when you really don't know what the metric word should be.

In some cases, it can be embarrassing to use "ge" as an alternative metric word.

With these metric words, you should be able to avoid awkward metric word moments.
