Call fried chicken and waffles traditional Southern food and you may be accused of participating in the Yankee conspiracy.
That's what we found last week, when our story about the dangers of the Southern fried diet prompted many to take root in the South to protest-don't pin that dish on us!
Here is a sample of the comments we received: "I am a Southerner and I have never heard of fried chicken on waffles!
"I live in the Deep South and I have never seen them in any of the" soul "food places I eat.
"I grew up in the South.
The first time I heard that fried chicken and waffles were summer jobs in Los Angeles. . .
It's definitely from Los Angeles, not from the south.
This is a Yankee.

"Your Gut reaction makes us wonder: is it wrong for us to mix carbs with fried food as a Southern background story?
We raised this issue with John T.
Director of southern gourmet league, fried chicken: American story by Edge.
"This is a South dish," Edge told salt, "but a South dish is removed from the South once or twice.
"This is one of the most popular dishes among expats and Africans --
"Southerners in the United States," he added, "the most popular dish among southerners living in urban areas, whether in the southern part of the city or in the western part of the city, as far as Los Angeles is concerned, or in the northern part of the city, as far as New York is concerned.

Edge says there are no rules except that the chicken should be on the bone.
He preferred the dish with dark meats, a little maple syrup and a little Tabasco sauce.
As Edge tells in his book, the East Coast and West Coast are credited with promoting fried chicken and waffles.
In the 1930 s, this combination was a signature product of the Well's support Club-the favorite Harlem area of Sammy Davis.
And Nat King Cole.
In Los Angeles, Roscoe's soul chain restaurant has brought chicken and waffles to Hollywood audiences since 1970.
But Edge suspects that this dynamic duo may have been part of the American culinary repertoire, and it has been going on for a long time --
From the earliest days in the United States, Thomas Jefferson brought waffles from France.
Where did the chicken and waffles come from?
Edge thinks it's multiple places.
Including the South.
"In rural areas, it is very traditional to kill a chicken, twist the neck and cook breakfast," he said . ".
The same is true in the South, he said, but also in the Midwest and Pennsylvania Dutch countries-where people have been matching waffles with chicken --
Cream has not been fried for centuries.
Adding Waffle might look exotic, he says, but it's not far from chicken and biscuits or chicken and corn bread-waffle is a "quick bread ".

So why are we causing so many readers to get angry?
Edge has a theory.
Edge said: "Whenever you talk about fried chicken in the South, you are essentially talking about someone's mom, and someone gets angry when you talk about someone's mom.
