A New York Favorite For Soup Dumplings Is Gone, Saddening Chinese Food Lovers  -  my favorite dish in the restaurant essay

New Yorkers are used to ordering Chinese food almost every hour of the day.
But for a long time, more adventurous diners have traveled to Flushing, Queens, with thousands of Chinese immigrants.
A small restaurant called Nanxiang Xiaolong Bao is a tourist destination for dumpling lovers.
They will wait in line in Shanghai.
Small dragon treasure, more famous dumplings.
These are juicy meat bags filled with a mixture of pork or pork and crabs, plus gelatin melted when dumplings are steamed.
But now there are no lines, and there is no Nanxiang.
Last week, New Yorkers and other food lovers were shocked to hear that restaurants a few blocks from Flushing Street had closed their stores, although the business seemed to be as good as ever.

"If this happens at one of Flushing's most popular restaurants, what does this mean for the rest of Flushing's businesses?
"Flushing is one of the most concentrated areas for Chinese immigrants in the United States.
The streets of Queens are packed with restaurants, bakeries, small businesses, large chain stores and large food courts featuring Chinese food and products.
But the competition is fierce, and enterprises fight for survival.
According to the New York diner, Nanxiang has been operating for more than ten years.
Moreover, while Joe claimed to be the first choice for Tangyuan in Shanghai, Manhattan, Nanxiang performed well --

Chinese dumplings are one of my favorite foods. I have heard that Nanxiang has been here for many years.
Last spring, I persuaded ABC Radio friend Mark Remillard to accompany me to Flushing for a meal.
Nanxiang is our first stop on Sunday morning.
We walked in and immediately found the booth where the staff were making dumplings and steamed dumplings.
We grabbed the seat and immediately placed an order for dumplings.

Since we have other restaurants to visit, we plan to speed up our pace.
"Is that what you want?
Our waitress asked.
"Now," I said.
Let's eat vegetable dumplings first.
They are fat, a bag of tears, thin skin, thick fillings, and 6 dumplings for $5. 95.
Then the dumplings are round and fat, with a twisted spiral on them.
The soup is very rich, and the pork and crab stuffing are also very rich.
There is no need to talk. we just ate.
It's easy to understand why tangyuan is considered a good luck dish for Chinese New Year celebrations.
Who doesn't want to start a year with something so delicious?
Nanxiang's dumplings are a little more expensive than vegetables, and six are $6. 95.
We decided to pay for the second set.
For about $20, we had an unforgettable meal experience.
I planned to return to Nanxiang earlier this year, but it rained, which made me afraid to take the subway.

I just went to Chinatown in Manhattan.
There are many places in the city where you can buy tangyuan, and there is no doubt that someone will stand up and try to claim the location of Nanxiang.
But the loss is another reminder that New York is losing some of its most popular small businesses.
Last spring I wrote about Glazer's Bakery, the Upper East Side bakery known for its black and white cookies.
After operating in 116, the company was closed in July 2018.
The bakery was founded by Herber Glazer's grandfather, who said he and his brothers decided it was time to sell the building and let the business go.
