the best restaurant side dishes the floating market of amphawa - selfgrowth.com
When we talk about the water market in Bangkok (or near the city), we all think of the famous Damu market. While I'm sure the market is worth a visit, sometimes these places are very iconic (and therefore well worth a visit )...So, this time I decided to put this market aside and, as Mondo Noma da suggested, we went to anpawa, a floating market that is very popular among Thai people.Unlike Damnoen Saduak, The Amphawa Floating market can only be seen on weekends, so if your stay in Bangkok is inconsistent with it, it is not possible to see it.As far as I am concerned, fortune lets me spend the weekend in Bangkok and use the Sunday afternoon to visit the town of anpuhawa.Ampuhawa is about 80 kilometers away from Bangkok and its markets, but less tourists attract Western tourists than elsewhere. That is the reason for my visit. every step is to avoid the tourists and souvenirson. While I must say that anpawa is a tourist city like its market, don't be fooled.Restaurants on both sides of the canal alternate with souvenir shops, the market at the entrance to the city is full of sweets and typical food, but there are also occasional T-Shirts and souvenirs of the city.In the strictest sense, the market is not floating.Ships piled up on the banks of the anpawa Canal do not sell fruits and vegetables...But no souvenirs, they are authentic water restaurants! If in Bangkok, I 've been surprised by the number of food stalls on the street, and the anpawa stuff has been running hundreds of laps, it's a small boat market where everything is cooked...Whatever you want, fish, noodles, pancakes. We arrived at anpawa around noon, although the best time to look at the market is at night, because the hot weather is not too much pressure, the decor of each store makes the place feel a little Christmas, however, we stopped at a small massage center next to the canal with a lot of charm to make time out.For a 45 minute 1 feet massage, we paid 150 bats...a real joy.If you arrive early, you can explore the river by boat before some tour groups arrive. On weekends, there will usually be more people, you can take a boat shared by 50 bats per person (this is what we do) and provide --Walk along the river for an hour.If you decide to visit anpawa outside the weekend or prefer to have more time to enjoy the river and its surroundings, you can rent a 2 to 3 hour route on a private boat, of course, prices are still rising exponentially. The best thing to do is to take the boat in mid afternoon, so when you come back, it's already dark, and when you get to the city center, you'll be greeted by the tinkering of food stalls and shops that put your nose into the canal, and for your taste buds, it's an ideal time to wake up the scent of dishes cooked on boats.Just like you can get to all the floating markets in anpuhawa on an organized trip, you certainly won't spend any work organizing it, though you will pay more, you will lose the possibility of going to the market at your own pace.A quick way to get in by van. That's what we do.Free and modern style vans depart several times a day from Bangkok. We didn't go to the Victory Monument in Bangkok as planned, all of these vans were parked there, but we couldn't find an English logo...Thankfully, we managed to find them after several inquiries to other vans and an information officer. For those who decide to take a minivan, remember that they are not next to the light rail station, there is a small railing where tickets are for sale and we can read the name of the destination in English. The boldest people can follow the advice of the Lonely Planet guide and take public transport from Bangkok to the Hwang huaiai railway station. There you can take the train to Samut Sakhon and get off from atMae Klong, where you can see the famous market on the train track, and finally, take a tuk or take a van to ampawa (note: The minivan is also parked in Mae Klong ).If you want to stop on the route to the Victory Monument in Bangkok, you have to buy tickets at this destination, and then this van will stop and drop off at this small market enclave. You can take a leisurely stroll through the market (with a little luck or a good time schedule) and watch the train go through the market. Then, around the corner, you will find the service of the public transport van.If you ask them, they will tell you which of them is going to da anpawa.Back in Bangkok from anpuhawa, you can take another van, the station just across the main bridge of anpuhawa (not pedestrians, but people with roads), only a few meters apart), no loss. You will want to go through it at sunset and appreciate the illuminated market, its boat swings in the water, and its age of people has disappeared at night.
