Although there are a variety of restaurants in our area, there are not many places to enjoy a full Mexican meal.
Fortunately, Unida Latin America in Cambridge expanded to Waterloo in the third month of this year and opened cactus.
On a Wednesday at the end of September, we visited the restaurant and although we were quiet when we arrived, it was busy when we left.
There were a few tables when we came in, so we were invited to sit anywhere we chose.
There are stalls on one wall of the room and several tables on the middle and the other.
The table is not decorated, and the restaurant is decorated with tiles, multi-color paint and a large cactus painted on a wall.
The bar at the back of the room was beautifully decorated with decorative tiles and lights.
The server that brought our menu to the table acts as the host, server, bartender and sometimes seems to be helping out in the kitchen.
I found out later that he was
The owner of the restaurant and his wife.
Given the number of people starting to arrive, whether it's food or takeout, he will definitely get some help in front of him.
We didn't get the drink menu so ordered the drink with the Q & A process.
My husband decided to buy a bottle of Mexican beer. $5. 99)
I chose organic acacia ($6. 99 for 8 oz. )
My daughter ordered a large soft drink. $2. 50).
Later I noticed that other diners were enjoying margar Tower wine and I would definitely try one if I came back.
The food menu includes several appetizers, as well as a variety of burritos, tortillas and "traditional plates" including burritos and chimichangas.
The items listed are accompanied by detailed descriptions that are helpful as we do not have much opportunity to ask questions.
As starters, we chose two flavors to share:$8. 99)
And participate in Refrito cheese ($7. 99).
They arrived soon after we ordered, big enough for the three of us to share and some of the rest.
The avocado is rich in flavor and fresh, sprinkled with chopped fresh tomatoes and onions.
Fried foods include baked beans, spices, and cheese, plus lots of grilled cornflakes.
Although we all love both flavors, the taste is quite mild and I will ask for more spices next time.
There is also a small portion of salsa, which is different from the traditional cut of tomatoes and vegetables, is darker in color and tastes more like adobo sauce, which tastes deeper.
My daughter's main dish is chicken noodles. $10. 99)
Folded tortillas consisting of two portions of chicken, mozzarella cheese, green tomato sauce, tomato, onion, sour cream and ground cheese.
She said the taste was good. she liked the taste here very much.
I fried burrito chicken in Mexico ($12. 99)
A fried corn cone filled with pinto beans, chicken, and cheese topped with Mexican salsa, onions, tomatoes, cheese, sour cream and avocado sauce.
It was delicious and I enjoyed every bite.
The tortillas are thin and light, and the flavor of the filling and ingredients is a good combination.
My husband ordered the Super Taco ($16. 99)
This is a mixture of steak, sausage and cactus with mozzarella cheese and tacos next to it.
Medium spice is good, he says, but he wants to break the richness of the dish with sour cream and fresh salsa.
The only dessert served that night was churros, but we still had a lot of food to take home so decided to pass it on.
Although we all enjoyed our food, our dining experience was improved with the waiter.
The owner was friendly and efficient but had high demands throughout the evening.
I was impressed by the menu and I was looking forward to tasting it again.
