As gold chefs from all over Canada prepare for their culinary finals, the knives in Toronto are sharpening and signature dishes are being perfected.
The Canadian Culinary Championships are scheduled to take place on Friday and Saturday in Kelowna. C.
In an event to raise funds for Canadian Olympians, pits won chefs from all over Canada.
The game was a Toronto idea.
On 2003, Karen Blair and his partner Stephen Leki announced that 2010 Olympic Games will be held in Vancouver.
They raised $9.
5 million athletes.
"It's huge in this industry, because it's the only national competition for chefs that are not within the actual scope of the chef organization, like Bocuse d'Or (Lyon, France)
James Chatto, a culinary consultant, noted: "This kind of thing, a longtime restaurant critic at Toronto Life magazine.
He collected a roster of district judges familiar with local scenes, who in turn advised 8 to 10 chefs to compete for gold medals each fall.
The competitor must be the executive chef of the professional kitchen, have six months to prepare and judge according to the signature dishes.
Like the Olympic Games, chefs won gold, silver and bronze medals. Each gold-
Medal winners will be in the final of the Canadian cooking championship.
Lorenzo losoto, chef at The George restaurant in Toronto, was the final winner in 2014 and joined the jury this year.
The ending is three. pronged.
Every competitor gets a bottle of untagged wine on Thursday night, and nothing on the cork can identify it.
On Friday, they bought ingredients at the designated market and made a small dish to replenish the wine.
They have to cook for 500 to 700 people on a budget of about $1. 50 a head.
"You'll be surprised how they managed to make money," Chatto said . ".
"Sometimes they even give us the cash back and give it to the athletes, because they didn't spend all the money, so it has become a proud thing for these chefs.
But the food they provided was delicious.
"On Saturday, every quarantined chef receives black boxes of 10 mysterious ingredients from all over Canada.
They have to choose six to cook a dish in an hour.
Then at the party that night, they will be judged on the signature dishes prepared for 500 to 700 people.
Music elements, singers-
Jim Cuddy, Song author of the Blue Rodeo, is responsible for planning Entertainment.
Artists will include the spirit of singers Barney bent and Western lead singer Jeffrey Kelly and John man.
Athletes participating in the games include skier Jennifer Haier and Kelsey Seva, rowing player Adam Crick, triathlete Simon Whitfield and Shooter Dylan Armstrong
"This raises awareness of the restaurants involved, so we get a lot of business from being involved," Loseto said . ".
"Then, as part of this kind of thing, it is purely a pleasure.
Then it's also great to know that you're doing your part to raise money for Canada's Olympic Games.
