Dining Out: Classic curries keep away the cold at Loft Thai Eatery - most popular thai restaurant dishes
The cold months have swept through Edmonton and my appetite has changed as the leaves change, from light, fresh to warm and comfortable.
So I was recently looking for a delicious, warm enough meal to distract me from Edmonton's biting autumn wind.
The attic Thai restaurant is hidden in a shopping mall facing the heart next to Avenue 53, which is very dull.
If I hadn't been looking for this restaurant specifically, I would have missed it altogether.
However, there is a modern, bright, warm space inside which feels 20-
It's actually seating space.
Everything was very clean from the bar to the neat restroom.
Our waiter greeted us quickly and it seemed a relief to have some customers come in for dinner.
This is not to say that the kitchen in the attic is unstable when we have dinner --
However, most customers who enter the door quickly left with takeout.
My friend and I took the menu to a comfortable table in the corner and started our dinner with a few specialty cocktails --
For me, the attic "Zap" rim caesar ($8) and the moon storm spiced rum cocktail ($8 ). 50) for her.
Our drinks were good but not particularly memorable.
My Caesar is very simple, despite the rich spices on the edges (zap means "delicious" in Thai) and will benefit from the complexity of the cocktail itself.
However, the moon storm is a harmony of rum, club soda and ginger soda with spices and lime juice and ginger syrup, and avoids the trap of becoming too sweet.
Loft's menu contains many of the desired Thai classics, but executive chef Chon Vichitvorakul has also produced a special "signature" selection that includes steak, ribs, braised beef
My friend and I started with a sparkling vegetable spring roll ($8) before entering the main product ).
50 5 copies), rolled hot from the fryer in addition to a small crispy salad and an apple
Hot sauce.
Our first glimpse showed a string of crispy vegetables and fans.
We were impressed with the filling keeping its texture, and did not become an unrecognized paste mess.
I fed my desired soup with prawns ($8) and am not sorry.
When I ate my first few slurslur, the warm, spicy broth completely surrounded me, and it was nice to find a few plump prawns swimming in tomato and mushroom chunks.
The price of this part is high, bigger than the recipe soup, but not too big before the main course to fill you up.
After trying more traditional dishes, we decided to use the signature dishes of several chef Vichitvorakul as our main course.
I chose the loft gai yang ($22) which is a slow one
Marinate half a chicken with a mixture of lemon grass and other bright flavors, while my friend was tempted by the crying tiger AAA Alberta Striplin steak ($25.
My chicken is next to steamed carrots, zucchini, and cauliflower, and the application of delicious creamy coconut carrot sauce (perhaps my favorite ingredient, there are also a few "nam jim" of chicken (dipping sauce ).
To be honest, there is little need for any decoration for chicken
The meat is tender and juicy.
Our waiter took the time to explain that the chicken was slow to bake for hours, and the effort was a success in the taste.
On the other hand, there are fewer steaks than stars.
The meat feels a little dry and tough, and the plate itself looks a bit boring as it is the same as plain vegetables and simple glaze.
Salads, jasmine rice or coconut rice are available for each main course --
The last two people arrived in part, and we both had a lot left.
We all left happily, but I felt like I was cheated.
The following week I went back and tasted the traditional red curry and found out why.
Delicious, vibrant dishes ($15 for beef or chicken, $17 ).
50 servings of shrimp or seafood), a perfect mix of classic Thai spices.
It is clear that chef Vichitvorakul's kitchen is a labor of love and glory as he introduces a more modern twist on traditional Thai food.
Nevertheless, although he is clearly committed to the more refined menu of Loft, the classic selection, such as curry, seems to be more interesting and, most importantly, the taste is better.
I will definitely return to the Thai Loft restaurant again, but I will stick to the classics from now on.
