Consumers who are advised by doctors or nutritionists to limit their diet, or they themselves find that changes in their diet improve their health and may find complexity while eating out becomes more.
Reducing calories, saturated fat, cholesterol or sodium is difficult at home and seems impossible in an inviting atmosphere in a restaurant.
To solve the problem, the New York Heart Association published a pocket guide to dining out in New York City.
It may help those who are facing menus that list very few (if any) suitable options and they find that restaurant management is not cooperative or they don't know what to order.
The guide is also accompanied by a survey of restaurants and hotels that will provide a special diet.
Although this booklet was designed for patients with heart disease, it also applies to other issues, including high blood pressure and obesity.
One of the proposals is to request the removal of anchovies and feta from Greek salads;
Order chicken, rice, lentils and yogurt in Indian restaurants;
Select the steamed tortillas from the Mexican menu instead of the fried tortillas and order the tomatoes
Marinated taste on the pasta instead of cream sauce.
The brochure containing the list of restaurants advertised was the result of a survey.
Starting three years ago, the heart association nutrition committee, in collaboration with the New York Restaurant Association, mailed questionnaires to 500 restaurants in the city.
A figure from Ruth R, about 10% people responded.
Herdrick, vice president of communications at the association, said it was "disappointing ".
The next few
Ups got around 30 additional responses from fast-a total of 78 different categories of institutions
From vegetarian fish to ethnic cuisine, from food to luxury.
The questions in the ad survey are the same as the ones suggested in the brochure that the dieters ask in the restaurant.
Does the restaurant offer margarine instead of butter, skim milk instead of whole milk?
Can you make a dish with vegetable oil or vegetable oil margarine instead of butter?
Will all visible fat be removed from meat and poultry?
Can the food be cooked, grilled, steamed or boiled instead of fried?
Can the portions of cooked meat, fish and poultry be limited to 4 to 6 ounces?
Can a dish be prepared without butter, gravy or sauce, or salt or MSG?
Are there any fruit desserts?
If special requests are made in advance, will the restaurant be satisfied?
A question was also asked about a separate area for non-smokers, but the brochure says that it doesn't matter that many places have installed effective air now
Clear the device.
The survey listed ten New York restaurants and eight hotels that responded positively to all dietary issues.
