A Review: Toki Underground - dish restaurant washington dc menu
What is it?
The underground restaurant is a ramen restaurant.
But it is much more than that.
The food has Taiwanese flavor and the taste is very rich and you will come back to try everything they have to offer.
The food is authentic.
They have dumplings, steamed stuffed buns, noodles and, of course, ramen noodles. Where is it?
You will miss it if you are not looking for it, this is one of the places. I guarantee it.
This is not a local restaurant and you will happen to find it when you are walking in Washington DC.
Like many cities, there is also a problem with space in Washington, DC.
There are only so many in a city.
So, they put the restaurant where they could go: above the bar.
Located in central H Street, an upcoming neighborhood in Washington, DC, this location is not ideal for visitors visiting the National Mall.
You have to go a long way to find it and I can almost guarantee you will get lost.
The easiest way to find Toki Underground is to find a bar called Pug.
That's what it sounds like: a dive bar.
The food was delicious.
Different. One of a kind.
Sitting underground is not just a ramen shop.
It has the characteristic of Taiwan and the attitude of Taiwan.
They offer several different kinds of dumplings.
When I first read the menu
I was so excited to try chicken dumplings, but the vegetable dumplings also sounded good.
But after reading a few reviews on several different food sites, I decided that the buns were a must-do.
Now, this is just an appetizer.
The main course is noodles, then noodles.
Honestly we were there for an hour and I only saw people order ramen.
Depending on your taste and ability to handle spices, there are several different options for ramen.
The taste blends well together to give a sense of authenticity.
This is a small restaurant.
I mean small.
I think it can accommodate up to 30 diners.
I heard the wait will be quite long.
After the visit, I know why everyone suggests you arrive when this place is open.
It filled up quickly.
The most important thing is that there is no waiting area.
The restaurant is located above a bar called pug and looks a little rough.
The block itself is not bad, but I will go to a larger community at night.
There is not enough room for delicious ramen.
My boyfriend often puts his elbow on my face and doesn't let me eat.
I don't live in Washington anymore.
Even if I did, I was 45 minutes away from DC.
It's a bit silly for me to dive for dinner or lunch in 45 minutes, especially when there are so many other options.
However, there are still a lot of places like Toki Underground.
I live in the Virginia Beach area now.
When my boyfriend said his friend invited us to Washington for lunch, I thought he was joking.
However, on a perfect and wonderful day, we drove for lunch for more than three hours.
We just went up on the day of H Street Festival.
What does that mean?
All H Street is blocked.
We walked about a mile and a half.
For those familiar with the city, we parked a few blocks from the capital building.
It's really cool to walk through this festival.
I have been in Washington many times over the years and I can honestly say that I have never been to that part of the city.
As soon as we opened the door, we got up.
If I hadn't been looking for that door, I would never have been able to find it.
The stairs were shabby and matched with the rest of the building.
The restaurant I see every time is nothing.
All seats are bar style and the room has a feel of Asian and urban punk rock.
Our waiter got us the water right away and ordered.
It took only a few minutes for the buns to come out.
The chicken was spicy but not enough to sweat me.
The buns are tender and perfectly matched with both sides.
Great ramen.
The noodles are tender and the broth is one of the most delicious things I 've ever had.
I was a little surprised that they pulled pork and kale in the ramen, but it really worked.
The guys took the noodles down and drank their broth, but I can't go any further than the noodles.
Too much.
I wish I could eat more, but I know it would be terrible if I walked back to the car a long way.
I think if you like Asian style food, you should add it to the must-do list in Washington, DC.
I think this place is perfect for dating nights.
The food is delicious and considerate.
(The price is not too bad. the steamed stuffed bun I bought with my boyfriend, two bowls of ramen and a Coke cost about $50, and the water is of course free) I don't think it would be a good place for larger groups or families simply because of limited seating.
The music is a little loud.
I'm not quite sure if this is normal or if they are trying to drown out the festive noise on the street outside.
I didn't expect to hear modern rock and rap.
I think I have more expectation for the feeling of Asia, but it is consistent with the overall feeling of the dining area.
I will definitely go again!
Just, not on a crazy day trip.
If I happen to visit a museum or monument in Washington, I would strongly consider leaving the old road for some delicious ramen noodles.
If you are a person who likes to eat at a place where locals eat while on vacation, then this is your place.
There are often many locals in this place.
Many of them put comments and pictures on the food review website.
I promise you that you will find what you want.
